With the Awarding Ceremony of Idea-Tops Award just 4 weeks away, members of the design master jury discuss how this year's shortlist revealed the increasing focus on sustainability in contemporary design and architecture.


The 9th International Space Design Award received 7113 entries from 57 countries, making it one of the biggest and most international architecture and design awards programmes in the world.

A panel of 12 judges assessed every entry online, whittling them down to a shortlist of five entries per category, with winners emerging based on a scoring system. During the Final Selection jury ratified and selected all 18 winners.

Idea-Tops Award winners will be unveiled on 27 April at a dazzling ceremony in Shenzhen, China. Each winner will receive a unique trophy.

One member of international jury panel, Massimiliano Fuksas, the most famous architect in Italy and the designer of the T3 of Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport, commented: “This year’s entries are the best in the whole history of Idea-Tops. They represent great ideas. Projects are really fantastic, intelligent and liric. You understand that now people are looking for the soul, the deep soul of the world and the landscape. You see the relationship between the interior and exterior, it gives you an idea of cultural and development withdrawing in China and all over the world.”

As the winner of the 2013 Idea-Tops Award, Massimiliano Fuksas is convinced in successful future of the award. In his interview the architect mentioned: “Each year the projects are more and more interesting, I can’t wait to see the future projects, I am assumed they are going to be fantastic. I am grateful to Idea-Tops for such an opportunity to see and judge all these amazing projects”.

The design master jury consists of 12 senior experts in the field, who use the principles of being professional, rigorous, fair and just, respect every participant and their works, discover and praise the best designs around the world. They are National architecture design master Meng Jianmin, Doctor of Design at Harvard University and Vice President of Asia University Liu Yu-Tung, Executive director at world top architectural firm AECOM Colin Franzen, famous Italian architect and esigner of Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport T3 terminal Massimiliano Fuksas, The Pritzker Architecture Prize judge and Director of international architecture firm EMBT Benedetta Tagliabue and others.
